SOMEHOW I FOUND a way to get lost in you!
let me inside LET ME GET CLOSE TO YOU. CHANGE YOUR MIND
----------------------------------------------------------- The salty sea had not been a good friend to him. The constant pounding waves and having to always be soaked was not the best of places for something that looked half human to rest his wounds. For many months now he had been having an ongoing battle with the cut running down his left side and into his coal colored fin. The coloring on it was rather strange as it had become somewhat green and an orange. Well, that was what he could tell. His flesh was not as deeply tanned as it could have been since he had been creeping low in the waters and the winter time had taken its time here. All in all, he wasn’t feeling one hundred percent and had finally been convinced that perhaps he needed to do something to properly fix the bothersome gash. So he had come up from the depths of the ocean not to hunt for one of the first times in his life. As soon as he had changed his fin into two separate human legs and walked up on the shore without much to wear, Keto felt very out of place. Usually he would hurry up the cliffs and simply find a girl to lure in over next to the edge, cut her throat, and push her over. That was the extent of his visits to solid land so naturally he felt very strange coming up to wait for a wound to close up. Keto was stubborn though. He had already decided before coming up that he would manage just fine. He could do just about anything, right?
At first his walking was very awkward. Every few steps he would find himself putting his arms out and walking sideways rather than straight ahead. Oh, how he hated these human legs and their ridiculous walking and running and such! Whenever he transformed he started missing the water. He was right now. But maybe the biggest reason he did was because it took him a while to get the hang of standing up straight. His legs were strong, no doubt. It was still his muscle. The only thing was that it had been separated into two legs and had to adjust to the way they worked together now. It was rather painful walking through the sand since transformation itself was painful. But Keto did the best he could, pausing every so often to regain his balance.
As the merman changed human climbed up the cliffs (taking a worn path up, mind you), he began to ponder over whether he should provide himself with a little more to wear. That was another thing about human bodies. Things seemed a bit more awkward about keeping themselves hidden and required more garments than one would find necessary in his race. His race was already hardly dressed as it was, if anything. So the thought of having fabric over his skin made him frown a bit. But, honestly, he wasn’t sure how comfortable he was with staring at his own legs and- ah, well, you got the point. Besides, the wound in his side was an eyesore by now and would instantly give away to everything on land that he was already in poor condition. Then, of course, it would be rather difficult to blend in with these humans if he went around in the nude. He had seen how they got all dressed up in the past. Women in the long flowing things and men in… other things. That would be simple enough.
Before reaching the city that he had decided to head up to, Keto decided to go ahead and surprise a farmer. Hah- it was like they’d never seen a naked man before. Hadn’t they seen their own kind like this? In any case, the woman with him had clasped her hands over her mouth saying something like ‘poor thing’ and Keto played dumb, not even speaking. And wouldn’t you know it, they offered him clothing. He made a mental note not to have them for dinner. Speaking of supper, he had passed up on their offer to him by simply taking the clothing and leaving. How polite of him, right?
The clothes were extremely awkward and difficult. He tried to do just as the man he’d encountered had been wearing everything but he couldn’t decide which way the things on his legs had gone. Not to mention they were extremely uncomfortable on certain parts of the body! Ugh, humans were so foolish. After a long struggle he managed to pull them on though and the rest of the clothing. The black… cover thing hung loose around his upper body. The sleeves went all the way down to his wrists, making him feel very confined. Then of course they had some kind of cuffs to keep it fitted on him or something and he was tempted to tear it apart. Then the black bottoms which he discovered were the hide of an animal were uncomfortable all the way around, feeling tight on his calves and… well, everything! The things on his feet felt clunky- you know, he could go on for days about how horrid everything was.
Keto had made sure to wear some unique jewels and treasures from the sea about his neck and wrists. Not to show them off but for some kind of payment he supposed. These humans worked in strange ways. It was something like their world but Keto had little experience with society and his people just weren’t the same as these filthy land creatures. They were bizarre but stupid. He knew anything that looked pretty would do for payment if it looked intriguing enough. He knew how to bargain with these creatures. That was one thing he understood.
Once arriving in the human city, Keto began his quest. He asked some humans where a good place to stay was and they pointed him in the direction thinking that he was nothing but a tired traveler (he was still walking a bit slowly). When he arrived at the Inn they were speaking of… he scrunched his nose trying to figure out if it was the right place. Ah, Keto couldn’t read. He couldn’t even read the language of his own people. A silent flaw he kept to himself. So… was this the ‘Inn?’

What was the game plan today? Nita had no idea. Then again, she wasn't much for planning. Anytime she tried to plan something, it never worked out or if it did, rarely was it in her favor. No, she much preferred being spontaneous. It made her feel young. By her people's standards, she was anything but, however, after conversing with many others of different races, she realized that in their eyes, she was very old. After finding that out, she made a mental note never to tell anyone, unless one of her race, her true age.
The mermaid knew one thing, however. She was deathly bored and eager to meet someone who would at least entertain her for a short period of time. She wasn't known to keep many suitors of an extended period of time. In fact, she much preferred having what humans called "one-night stands". Nita wasn't much for commitment and tying herself down. She had tried that once but it didn't end up good for either her or him. Being that he was human, she had him quickly disposed of...in her stomach. She never liked human males once they started asking too many questions. They stopped being fun.
Nita had been staying away from humans as of late. It wasn't that they were boring, it was more she had grown rather concerned over her reputation as a "human lover". It was starting to undermine everything she had worked hard to protect. Naturally, however, she only had herself to blame. Maybe if she hadn't spent so much time frolicking around with those deemed lesser than herself, she wouldn't have to try and avoid the things that she liked. And what she really liked was someone else's company.
The only way she could achieve that seemed to be on land. All the sea dwelling creatures were becoming immensely boring to her lately. In order to cure herself of eternal boredom, Nita decided to leave the waters in exchange for the land. She swam up ashore, making sure no one noticed her. After pulling herself out of the water, she lay there on the beach, waiting for the transformation. Oh how she hated it. The pain sometimes wasn't worth it, but no sooner had she thought about the pain, did a piercing effect slice down her fins into what would become legs. She looked down after panting heavily.
No matter how many times she made the transformation, nothing prepared her for the pain. Nita stood up, wobbling this way and that in order to get her balance. She should have been a master at the human walk, but it still took some time getting used to. After a few practice runs, Nita walked, albeit slowly, towards her favorite hide-out spot. She dug something up and it was evident that it was clothes, a simple yellow dress that still seemed good as new. She hastily put them on. She didn't have any others and had stolen them from a poor defenseless girl months ago. They seemed to do just fine and she got a tasty meal out of it.
Nita hated Amaryllis simply for the cliffs. More specifically, she hated walking up the steep hills. She was always fearful of falling down and breaking a bone or something. She knew very little about human healers and wasn't sure if she even trusted them. After all, she was not human even if she currently looked like one. Nita sighed and took a path that seemed worn and old. It was the only one she had familiarized herself with. She passed a few farmers here and there, some waved at her, but most paid her no attention. That was a good thing.
After walking for what felt like hours (it had only been minutes in reality), Nita found herself at an Inn. She frowned, having no form of payment. This wasn't how she had expected to spend her day, but if that meant finding a lonely traveler to spend the night with, she was all for it. She passed by a man who was staring at the Inn in confusion. Maybe he'd be the one she could play with for the night. Of course, she couldn't see his face though. She tapped the man on the shoulder and asked, "Are you alright?" She wasn't in her usual flirtatious mood just yet.
Nita, for the moment, ignored the man. Someone else had caught her attention. An older man had been staring at her oddly. She rolled her eyes. She hated the older human males. They were beyond creepy to her. She knew she was older than most of them, but that still didn't shake the feeling she got from most of them. Instead she returned her attention to the other man who still seemed a little bit confused. Why was he still standing there. "Can you...read?" She asked tentatively and lowly, not wanting to embarrass him.

SOMEHOW I FOUND a way to get lost in you!
let me inside LET ME GET CLOSE TO YOU. CHANGE YOUR MIND
----------------------------------------------------------- Oh, holy goddess of Morana, he couldn’t figure out what those lines on the sign said to him. What did an inn look like anyways? Like the word ‘inn’ not the building. He was sure that it looked something like this but he didn’t really want to march into someplace that he wasn’t going and draw attention to himself when he asked if they had a room he could stay in for the night. This was just- just infuriating! He was sure by now he was glaring awkwardly at the sign and he could feel some eyes staring at him but Keto ignored all of those pesky human eyes. The last thing he cared about was their opinion right now. Even when a few people asked if they could help him with something Keto just continued staring, not saying a word to any of them since he would rather not deal with any of them. He was sure he wasn’t the only one in this city who couldn’t read the words on that sign. Surely there were humans who were incapable of reading. He had almost thought them simple minded but realized that he too couldn’t read this swill so he kept from lowering himself to that level.
Keto felt a tap on his shoulder and yet another voice asking him if he was okay. Again, Keto decided to ignore it rather than glance back and make it extremely clear that he was just fine and didn’t need everyone who walked by to ask him if he was fine because he wasn’t going to answer any of them. Couldn’t anyone figure out for themselves that Keto was doing perfectly fine? He was just having some troubles with the sign and some trouble deciding on whether he should go inside of this place or not without knowing what it was. He was sort of hoping someone would walk by and mention the place to him like he had business there. Then he could answer and if it was the Inn he could go ahead and walk inside. It was a perfect plan! Ah, but it seemed that the finger that tapped him earlier was eager to drive him crazy in his time of troubled reading attempts. Didn’t they know that this really was not the time and place to be bothering uncomfortable strangers? Hmph, he would have to tell this one himself. Especially since she had brought up the point that he was possibly having trouble with reading it.
Keto placed his arms around his chest and tilted his head to the side. Long locks of dark brown fell smoothly to his left shoulder, the hair still wet from the sea with the smell of salt on it. Of course, everything smelled like the sea here too since it was a city sitting by the sea. He blended nicely in that sense. But his general personality didn’t seem to be blending… and his lack of reading skills seemed to be making him stick out.
Finally he turned his head around and narrowed his cool blue stare at the woman who had tapped his shoulder. She wore a simple yellow piece of clothing that covered her up from top to bottom. But even with all this covering and a pair of legs, Keto could see perfectly well who the bothersome tapper had been and that was Nita Larene. A young mermaid who had told him not to speak with her. Of course, that had been many years ago. He had lost count to be honest and was sure he had spoken with her since. Just not very long and not very often since the two of them were not on the best of terms. He saw her more than she saw him so he could recognize her any day, anywhere, at anytime. Well this was slightly awkward wasn’t it? She thought he was nothing but a merman with no interest in leaving the water. Yet, here he was standing before her with human legs, in human clothes, in a human city, trying to read human words. This was just wonderful.
He furrowed his brow at her, deciding not to soften his stare. “It’s human,” he spoke softly so nobody around them would hear his words. They probably wouldn’t notice in the hustle and bustle of the city but he was still carefully and generally quiet to begin with. “Can you read it?” He glanced back over toward the sign, waiting quietly to see if she could read it or not. He wouldn’t be surprised if she could, to be honest. Unlike most merfolk he knew, Nita was rather fond of humans it seemed. She had plenty of sex with them so hopefully during her erotic adventures she had learned to read their words. She probably had… just because she something of a harlot didn’t mean that she was stupid. In fact, he knew she was far from it. She was just… well, he didn’t know how to put it.
“Does it say Inn?”

She studied this man slowly and carefully. She knew that he couldn't read, whether he wanted to say anything about it or not. No one stood there awkwardly like that. What she was more confused on, however, was the fact that he hadn't gone inside yet. She shook her head. Humans could be such fascinating creatures when they wanted to be. In the back of her mind, she was praying that old man wasn't still looking at her. Nita slowly turned her head, pretending to look at something else and noticed the old man had left. She sighed.
She took in this man's scent. Granted, the city was atop several cliffs, with the sea beneath them, but he had a strong smell, one that was rather familiar to her. She buried her eyebrows in deep thought, hoping he was just one of many who had a strong sea smell. What she didn't want was to recognize someone. Unconsciously, she lifted up an arm and wondered if it had been her that she was smelling. She knew her scent and what she smelled like differed from what she was smelling. In any event, it didn't really matter. She had smelt worse.
Nita tried to get a better look at who she was talking to, but he turned around to face her. She closed her eyes in annoyance. He didn't appear to be pleased to see her either. This could have been a rather awkward moment and if she had been in an unpleasant mood, it might have been. How she hated Keto. Every time she didn't want to bump into him, it seemed like he was always around. After the millionth time, she stopped caring. She just assumed he was following her around for some odd reason. This had been going on for years, after all.
He looked incredibly awkward and she couldn't help but laugh softly. She hadn't pegged him for the land, transforming sort, but here he was, towering over her in the flesh with two pairs of legs. If only she owned one of those motion-capture devices the humans seemed to take pleasure in. No matter, she was going to remember this until she died. "Of course it's human..." She said rolling her eyes, but also speaking softly. And he always made fun of her for associating with humans. He couldn't even read! She suddenly felt rather sorry for him.
Keto did have an image and reputation to protect, however, it never really worked much on her after their initial meeting some odd years ago. She had stopped counting. Why he couldn't just admit when he was wrong, was beyond her. However, this really wasn't the time nor place to gloat. They were both out of water, and as such, equally vulnerable. She felt a little more superior to him on land because of her many experiences, but that wasn't to say that he was weak. She knew otherwise.
"Of course I can..." She mumbled. "It's an inn, where you pay for a room. I've been to this one plenty of times..." She smirked and jerked her head towards the door. She had no plans to stay out here if she didn't have to. "C'mon, I'll do all the talking." She didn't bother touch him; she had remember countless times when he down right lashed out at her for doing so. He could move on his own, she figured. After all, he had managed to get this far without anyone's help.
It hadn't taken her long but she eventually realized what she had been smelling. Nita looked alarmed, but quickly changed her facial expression. She didn't want anyone getting any ideas. Before she walked in, she leaned over to Keto and asked barely above a whisper, "Another one? I've told you about these...wounds. You better hope there's a healer around here who can deal with it...or just hope you've got the...coins, or whatever they're called to keep them quiet..." She looked him up and down quickly and led him inside.
Once in, she found what looked like a lobby area. She was such a frequent guest, that they knew her by name, her middle name, but a name. She walked up to the young woman and put on a false smile. "My...friend and I need a room...for the night." It was more for him than her, as she had no intention on sleeping anywhere near him. He'd probably try and kill her in the night. She never put anything past him. The woman looked from Nita to Keto with interest, but didn't say anything else.
Nita hadn't thought of their appearance and how it would look to others. They were both tall and had very exotic looks. While she waited, she looked back over at Keto and whispered in irritation, "How long have you been walking around with that...thing?" Before she had time to elaborate, the woman called her name, "Isis", and ushered her a key, telling her which way to go. Nita nodded her head distractedly. She took another look at Keto, mouthed "follow me", and led him to the back, where the rooms appeared to be. Nita found their room and held up the key with intrigue before fumbling about with the door.
It had only taken her a few minutes to get the key in the socket right, and when she did, the door opened. "In first...my dear warrior." She entered last and locked the door behind her. That was something she had learned from humans. It seemed to work most of the time. There was only one bed and even though it was large enough for both of them, in Nita's eyes, it wasn't for her. "So...what are you doing here?" She asked, plopping down on the edge of the bed and messing around with the dress she had been wearing. It wasn't her cup of tea. (sorry about the little g-modding)

SOMEHOW I FOUND a way to get lost in you!
let me inside LET ME GET CLOSE TO YOU. CHANGE YOUR MIND
----------------------------------------------------------- Of course she could read it. An annoying little voice in the back of his head mocked Nita while he simply eyed her patiently. She had then assured him that this place really was an inn. Oh, and not only was this place an inn. Nita had also been here on several occasions. Did she really need to tell him that? He supposed it was simply to say she had experience with this place and possibly the city but it also made him jump to the conclusion that she had probably slept with many men in this place. The last thing that he wanted to hear about was her adventures with all of the human men. But, then again, after his first thoughts had died down (which didn’t take much time, really), Keto began to feel some sort of comfort in knowing that she had been here before and could probably give him a few pointers. Being rather old he wasn’t used to taking the student’s seat in things but he knew better than to jump into this today. He wasn’t too willing to take any risks with this wound. So, for today, Keto would go ahead and take Nita’s advice and allow her to take the reins and do whatever it was that she did here. He did it without complaint. For now.
The first thing they did was go inside. Keto followed her without even the slightest bit of caution in his step. His legs had finally adjusted to the change and he could walk straight while keeping his knees from wobbling. He still hadn’t gotten used to the tightness of the clothing on him but was sure that stripping down now would only anger Nita and possibly get him removed from this place when he obviously needed to be here.
She took care of it. Hah- just as she had said, Keto allowed her to do all of the talking and she had actually managed to pull it off very easily. A small smirk played on his lips as she spoke to the woman, who seemed to be looking at the pair with some curiosity in her eyes. But Keto wasn’t really too busy paying any attention to her. His eyes were glued on Nita, following her every movement and taking in everything that she did to get inside of this place. From the likes of it she must have known this woman and some of the people who worked here. Apparently coming in often got her in quickly. A good customer, was she? But it was really no matter to Keto so long as he got his room and managed to heal up the opening in his side. The sooner that he went along with this the sooner he would be able to slip back into the waters of the ocean and be able to feel free and alive again. For now he could deal with this though. Even if Nita was the one helping him to get to his destination.
Keto’s eyebrows perked up when he heard her voice suddenly. For the most part he ignored her question, his sight gliding away from her and onto the woman who was remerging and calling Nita- or perhaps Isis- over giving her a key and explaining what way to go. Keto was watching Nita again and simply followed when she had said to do so, forgetting about her earlier question for the time being. It wasn’t really her business to begin with was it? They just both happened to be here at the same time but neither of them had to ask any questions why. Keto could care less if the two of them even spoke with one another from this time on. He would be perfectly content sitting by himself in a dim room for weeks. Keto could deal perfectly well with being alone. He didn’t exactly suffer from loneliness too often. He walked in through the door first, just as Nita had instructed. This time his eyes left her to gaze around at his surroundings while his nostrils flared slightly to take in the scent. No surprise that the whole place stunk of human. At least he was still close to the sea and he could smell that as well. He could smell it all over his own body and Nita’s as well.
Of course, social Nita was going to speak to him. Keto remained silent for a few moments, padding over toward the window to glance out of it. He gazed out at the street, watching humans go by. It made him crinkle his nose in dismay. He wasn’t sure how long he really wanted to be around all of these simple creatures. Well, they were actually rather complex and strange but there was nothing too intricate about their designs. It was nothing like he and Nita, for example. They couldn’t live on land and water. They couldn’t breathe air and sea. They weren’t anything special.
Finally Keto turned away from the window, dropping his eyes. He embraced the coolness of the room, as the fire wasn’t lit and his skin was enjoying the cold that the stone and wood around them let off. He traveled lithely over to an armchair and sat down on it’s burgundy colored cushioning finding it awkwardly pokey and comfortable all at once. It was nice to get off of the soles of these feet. He pulled the sash around his waist loose, allowing the body of the shirt he had been given to unbind from around his body. He winced slightly as the fabric released its grip from his cut. The sash was thrown lazily over his knee and he rested an arm on the chair, his eyes gazing back over toward the window thoughtfully. His mouth was covered up by his hands and his eyes were tired with… everything. Age, walking, transforming, talking, emptiness… everything.
“I can tell you I am not here to find a good time.”

As she sat there, Nita couldn't help but contemplate the odds. She truly hadn't expected to spend her day with someone like Keto. He was never much fun to be around. They just never seemed to have anything in common and always ended up fighting and arguing than anything else. At times, he left her frustrated and upset. Not for anything he ever said but because no matter how hard she tried, (and she tried very hard) he didn't like her. Personally, she didn't really have much of an issue with him, though his often negative attitude annoyed her at times.
With that being said, however, she rather enjoyed his company. Of course she pretended not to, but in all her years of knowing Keto, the warrior, she really hadn't tired of him like she had hoped she would. There was just something about him she couldn't shake and mostly she hadn't minded when they occasionally ran into each other. Oddly, it seemed to be more often than not, but she usually shrugged it off. Their frequent meetings rarely last long; he usually chased her away before she had time to say anything to him.
Nita had to admit, the bed was mighty comfortable. If she hadn't told herself that she wouldn't be sleeping here tonight with him, she would surely have found a way to make room for herself. After several futile attempts at making her dress look more pleasing to her, Nita gave up. She, for one, was never fond of covering herself up. What was the point? She'd only end up taking everything off. Such was her way and it didn't take anyone of any intelligence to deduce that he felt the same way about clothes, maybe not for the reasons she was thinking, naturally.
She watched him quietly, not bothering to waste energy saying anything. It wasn't like he would answer and if he did, she knew she'd be getting some sort of snark reply in return and quite frankly after helping him, she really wasn't in the mood for his ungratefulness today. She might just snap. He was rather lucky. He had truly yet to witness her at her worst. Sure, she liked messing with Keto, but he hadn't really given her much of a reason for her to lose control, although he had gotten her near the edge a few times.
He moved over to a chair and she took that as her sign to move further onto the bed. He wasn't lying on it, after all. Nita stretched her long legs, looking down at the unsightly sight. Due to the transformations, her legs bore heavy bruises. That didn't seem to deter many men, but it did bother her slightly. After noticing the blue bruise marks, she opted to refrain from land for several months. Nita wasn't really sure the consequences of too much land seeing, but it didn't seem worth it.
Besides, she loved to sea and wouldn't want to trade her fins for legs ever. She knew some, mostly younger mermaids, who would rather remain on land. Nita, for all her human interest, could never fathom why anyone in their right mind would actually want to be one. They didn't seem to have much going for them. They were unruly, they smelled and they died young. What was the fun in that sort of living? Not to mention how incredibly weak most of the human race was. That was the main reason she flirted with the males so often; they thought that were stronger than her!
When he finally spoke, she had to blink a few times. Everything had gotten so quiet she had nearly forgotten he was even there. After a few frowns, Nita merely shrugged. It was the sort of answer she had come to expect from him and those no longer meant anything to her. Maybe years ago she would have found some sort of smart retort, but it would only fuel his fire and that was something she had no intention on doing here today. Instead she turned the other way, her back to him. "Fine." She said, uninterested.
She was curious as to how he expected to get that wound fixed. She, for one, was not about to risk anything to help him. She had already gotten him this room. Unless he changed his tone or offered her something, he was strictly on his own. In fact, if it was going to be like this, she didn't see anymore reason for her to even be here. With that thought in mind, Nita slowly sat up, her back still facing him. "What are you going to do now? How are you going to get it...fixed?" Her head was turned slightly, and before long, she was on her feet.
"You're welcome." She said coolly, turning around to face him.

SOMEHOW I FOUND a way to get lost in you!
let me inside LET ME GET CLOSE TO YOU. CHANGE YOUR MIND
----------------------------------------------------------- He hated feeling like this. He hated coming out of his comfort zone and up onto the land that held the creatures he despised so much. He hated the fact that he had to come here to let himself heal rather than be in a place where he felt alone and safe. Keto was stuck up here as a foreigner to tend to some medical needs and really did not want to recuperate around things that he despised so much. The only reason he did this was because he was well aware that it was absolutely necessary that he did this if he wanted to continue this whole living thing. Sometimes it got so completely tiring and he almost felt like there was some void in him. It was only a feeling that he got every so often when he had a moment to think. It seemed to occur more and more with his age though. As a young, rebellious merman he had hardly thought of such things. He had never found himself to feel unfulfilled. He had always been a toned, all around fighter who was known around the sea as he aged into his prime. He had been the ideal mercenary and still was in some cases. Having a clan to back him up simply made him more likely to get anything done and all of them could benefit from it. He was helping to keep countless mermen and mermaids alive because he had taken them under his wing. So why would he have any reason to feel this emptiness in the pit of his chest? Perhaps on land memories just stirred through his head, causing some rather unhappy thoughts to run by. Maybe that was the reason that the emptiness came to try and claim him now. Because this place- this land- was a constant reminder of the past.
His eyes fell shut, brows furrowing deeply for a moment to clear away all of his thoughts. Nita’s single worded reply did nothing at bringing him away from his thoughts. If anything, it had only brought them back, causing his left brow to twitch up and then back down slightly. At the moment he really did not want Nita to even be there. He felt weak and tired and restless all at the same time. He wanted to move and get out of here but his aching side and legs were not going to let him and he wasn’t going to risk it. Oh, curse this wound and everything out in the sea that was out to hunt him down for either profit or worth. Kill Keto and you would have killed a skilled warrior that Keto was sure of. He was confident in his abilities and knew very well he could beat many of the young mermen who found him to be passing his prime. Maybe he was. He didn’t really look it but he could start to feel it. The life of a warrior was not meant to be a long one. Or a very comfortable one. So maybe the years were drawing to an end. Maybe the next time he went back to the sea someone truly would have him killed. But there was nothing he could do if that was going to be his fate. He wouldn’t fight destiny. Everything had to die one day. Including Keto the warrior and leader of Ekundayo.
Keto wrinkled his nose, eyes still closed when Nita asked him her question. As usual, Keto had planned on taking care of himself by himself without the aid of any kind of healer or magic worker. He didn’t much like having other things touch him. Especially humans. So once she had gone he would most likely end up finding something fine and something sharp to run through his skin and pull it together. Then he would wait for it to heal. If it never did then so be it. He would go back to the sea and simply rot. Life wasn’t all that exciting anymore so he doubted that he would be missing much of it. And he would much rather die where he loved to be than this rotten place.
This time Keto didn’t answer her at all. He supposed he was done talking to her and did not really feel like explaining himself to her at all today. He never really did speak with her much and if they did they would only end up arguing with one another. That was nothing new. Right now he did not feel like dealing with such things. Not on the land.
He heard her get to her feet but didn’t bother to open up his eyes. When she spoke, however, he managed to crack open his lids to gaze over at her tiresomely. He didn’t make any kind of sound to acknowledge her cold words. Keto didn’t even give her any kind of facial expression. He simply stared over at her almost as though he had gone completely lifeless. His chest hardly rose and fell when he breathed in the air around them. Finally though, he moved. He reached his free hand behind his back and let his fingers skillfully remove a tie to let half a necklace drop from his shoulder. The other half was still grasped in his hand. It was a carefully constructed necklace made from bits of old strands of rope and many gray and blue beads. There were a few turquoise stones tied in here and there and a simple gray shell hung in the center. This would be his payment to her. Turquoise, shells, and beads. It was all that he had on him unless she saw something else more suitable that he wore. But he already tossed it over to her with a quick flick of his wrist. His eyes turned away, closing again. And that was his thanks. And that was her cue to leave him be.

The minute she looked at him, she knew something was wrong. Perhaps it was the effects of the wound finally succumbing to him or maybe it was something else. Whatever it was, Nita knew that she couldn't leave him in this state even though she was so tempted to at that moment. The fact of that matter was that he needed her help, even if he wasn't going to admit it. She hesitantly held what he had thrown at her, and she was rather offended at the gesture. She didn't want anything from him. But she pocketed it. Eventually, Nita walked over to where he was sitting and placed a hand on his forehead. Why, she wasn't really sure, but she had seen plenty of humans do it and she supposed it meant something.
Nita stood there, knowing that she had to help, but confused as to what to do. She look down at where assumed his wound to be and sighed heavily. Taking care of someone wasn't how she expected to spend her day above water. Yet here she was, about to attempt to take care of someone who didn't care about her. She was a strong believer in doing good deeds and karma. In her eyes, if she walked out on Keto at his time of need, it would only come back to haunt her tenfold. That wasn't a risk she was willing to make.
So she paced there, back and forth, as if afraid of making any impulsive decisions. After all, his life was on the line. She wanted to call a healer of some sort, but she didn't want to have to deal with any questions. More than likely if she went that route, she'd have to kill them afterwords and quite frankly, that seemed more trouble than it was worth. However, she was presented with very few options. She was not about to perform any task on his body. One, he probably wouldn't allow it and two, she had no idea what she was doing.
He was looking worse the longer she hesitated. Biting her lip, Nita finally said, "Alright, I have to get a healer or something...you'll die if something's not done. Quite frankly, you need someone who actually knows what they are doing. Fixing this yourself isn't an option anymore...assuming you still want to live of course." She was being slightly sarcastic but was already near the door. Nita unlocked it, opened it up and quietly closed it behind her. She was certain he'd be fine by himself for awhile.
Meanwhile, she was already running down the corridors and back towards the lobby area. She looked around for anyone who could help her and upon finding the same woman who greeted her she said, panting heavily, "My friend...he needs...a healer..." The woman blinked a few times, probably well aware that just a few minutes prior, he seemed fine. However, she silently answered her by reaching for some sort of foreign device and talking out of it. Nita raised an eyebrow but remained silent.
"You're in luck Isis...there was a healer in another inn a few minutes away. He'll be on his way." Nita smiled, and said, "Thank you." She wanted to return to Keto, but she decided against it at the last minute. She wanted to be here when the healer arrived. While she waited, several thoughts came over her, most of them dealing with Keto of course. She couldn't help but think of the look on his face when she left him. He seemed so defeated and done with life. This wasn't the same merman she had met and continued to see in the sea.
What had changed him? Normally, he went out of his way wanting to live, yet now, it didn't seem to matter much. Maybe she was looking too deep into everything. He could have simply been tired. However, Nita was sure that it was more than that. It had to be. Her hands were now in the small pockets the dress had allotted for and she took out the shells he had given her. She was almost certain it wouldn't pay for anything with humans. They seemed to prefer that paper over tangible objects like these.
Nita bit her lip and frowned. She couldn't really help someone that didn't want her help, but she wasn't going to let him die either. As she stood up, about to walk back to the room, her attention was focused on the man entering the inn at a rushed pace. He was fairly heavy-set with a large, puffy mustache. Above all else, he was well-dressed and balding. She instantly liked him. He seemed to know who to look for and immediately walked over to her. "Where is he?" He asked hastily.
Nita silently led him back to the room, where she opened it. He had brought another woman with him, who was carrying a large, black bag. Her outfit was peculiar, as it was all white. Why Nita took the time to notice what they were wearing was beyond even her, but human dress was fascinating, even at times like these. The healer and woman set everything down on a table, spoke to each other in hushed tones and immediately began approaching Keto. This was something she had to see.
"Young man...can you hear me? What seems to be the problem?" Apparently, the healer hadn't seen the big wound on his side just yet.

SOMEHOW I FOUND a way to get lost in you!
let me inside LET ME GET CLOSE TO YOU. CHANGE YOUR MIND
----------------------------------------------------------- Even though he was surprised to feel a hand suddenly press against his forehead Keto did not flinch away or even open his eyes. His heart did jump a bit but no noticeable surprise ever showed up on his face or any other part of his body. He supposed that he really didn’t care. Just because he felt rather miserable didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to try and defend himself if she tried to attack him or something he just decided that there was no reason to bother with it at the moment. He was unsure about the contact but Keto was not going to come in between his skin and hers for now. It was not as though she was going to keep her hand there forever. And it was not like she was trying to threaten him with this strange gesture. Actually, he was not sure what she was trying to show him by doing this. He had not idea how placing one’s hand on another’s forehead helped with anything. But he obviously wasn’t going to bother himself with figuring it out. If there was anything that Keto already knew it was that Nita was very strange and had spent way too much time with all of the humans around here. So he really should not have been too surprised by her and her gestures. Yeah, he wasn’t surprised by this one bit.
She was anxious; he could feel it. She was practically dripping with uncertainty and he didn’t even have to open up his eyes to see it because she made it very clear just by the sounds that she was making- and the pace of her breathing. Keto wanted her to leave him but she was doing no such thing. She was doing the complete opposite of leaving him alone and it was rather aggravating. In this state he wanted nothing more than to be completely by himself. Not with some nervous mermaid who probably would rather not be with him right now. He didn’t want to be with her and she didn’t want to be with him. So why was she here with him? Was she simply feeling guilty or- no, Nita couldn’t have been feeling any guilt. She had already gotten him this room so what did she owe him and when had she ever owed him anything? Needless to say her actions were quite questionable.
Finally she managed to draw him out of his unemotional and uncaring state. His eyes peered open again as he calculated the words that she had just said. In all honesty, it took him a moment to catch up with him. The words had come in straight away but his brain didn’t quite seem to understand until she had closed the door. And then his eyes opened up to their full width and his fingernails dug in slightly to the skin on his face. Now all of the words were clear as day in his mind and now he was not as sluggish feeling as he had been only a few seconds before. Now he felt a rush of energy bursting through his veins trying to tempt him to chase after her.
A healer? Why in the world would she ever want to do that to him? He had never asked for her to get him any help and he had never asked if she would be any help to him! All that Keto had wanted to do was come to the land and wait for his wound to close up on its own time. He didn’t want some horrid human looking at his side and touching him and doing whatever it was that humans did to people when they were hurt. Keto didn’t need their help. He didn’t even need Nita damn help! She didn’t have to interfere with his business like she had. She should have just left him there in the street on his own!
A soft pout was on his lips now as he thought about the wretched mermaid and what she was trying to do with him. She may as well let him die because there was no way in hell that he was going to let her or anyone else get close enough to touch him. He would absolutely refuse any more help that came his way from the likes of Nita or any human. Stubborn? Uh, yes, he was stubborn and it was a trait that he was damn proud of when it came to things like this!
The door clicked and Keto’s eyes were quick to glance over at the people coming through. A fat man in darker clothing and a woman in white. Oh, then Nita followed them in. His eyes watched Nita only for a moment as he tried to push some of his unhappy vibes in her general direction. But he couldn’t help but move his stare when he heard the humans mumbling. Then they thought that they could walk over to him. Keto seemed perfectly relaxed but he could feel his fingertips tightening as they approached. His lips softened as did the rest of his face when the healer asked him a few questions. Then without missing a beat he gave a matter-of-factly sort of answer. “You.” Then Keto narrowed his stare. “Now leave me be fat man and take that harlot with you.”
He looked over toward Nita as he spoke the word ‘harlot.’ And he made sure to say it spitefully. He was not happy with that mermaid one bit and was still very upset at the choice that she had made on bringing them here to stare at him and question him. She knew he didn’t want the help and she knew that he wouldn’t take it. So why didn’t she know that she was wasting her time?

Had Nita really thought about the consequences of her actions? Of course not! This was Nita, Queen of the Impulse. What on earth would make anyone think she had actually thought this one through. All she wanted was for him to heal properly. She didn't really think anything wrong with it until he gave her "the look". Even so, she remained steadfast in her decision. If he wanted to hurt her, she wasn't going to stop him. Of course, she had the upper hand by being 100% healthy and that was all that mattered to her.
The healer and the woman looked at the man and all Nita could do was watch with interest. Humans, they were completely fascinating subjects. How lucky of her to have been able to encounter so many in her lifetime. They were far more interesting than merfolk could be at times. She practically knew what was she was getting with the likes of folk like Keto. They never changed much, yet humans, well that was another story. In her eyes, all they did was change. These two were just another example of the different variety that the species had to offer. She was impressed once again.
However, as interesting as humans could be, Nita knew that Keto was not happy with her at all. Regardless, he hadn't left her much of a choice. She was smarter than he would ever give her credit for and she knew how inquisitive and noisy humans could be. She had the only allowed him "one night" in this room. After all, he'd be on his own. That thought right there was what scared her. No, it wasn't because she was concerned for his well-being; she was more concerned with the innocents that he would no doubt harass.
A mess was something she was desperately trying to avoid. In calling on a healer, she was hoping that he could fix Keto quickly and efficiently and that the merman could be on his way without any further damage to anyone or himself. She didn't want anyone finding out about their lack of...human-ness. If he did anything to ruin her cover, she'd kill him. Seriously. He was good looking, but if the situation called for it, she'd do whatever she had to do and if killing him was the answer, so be it.
Then Keto spoke. Far from being surprised, however, Nita merely smirked. He said something along the lines of what she expected and before the healer and the woman had time to respond, Nita stepped up. "It's the wound...sir. It's making him irritable." The healer, a little more weary now nodded his head and mumbled something that she couldn't understand. As much as she wanted this to be done with, the healer apparently had other things on his mind. "Oh dear...it's infected..." He said allowed. Nita frowned, but it was something she had sort of expected to hear.
"Well...will he be alright?" She asked, a mix between seriously concerned and indifferent. More importantly, she had to keep up pretenses. The doctor looked at Keto's wound more, but didn't dare get too close to him and grunted some more. Nita was finding the healer to be amusing. He made all sorts of weird sounds and said things no one else seemed to understand at all. The woman, on the other hand, seemed downright afraid of Keto. Rightfully so, Nita thought to herself. She'd make it a personal goal of hers to make sure nothing happened to either one of these two. They were her problem, she'd deal with it herself.
Nita bit her lip, wondering what would happen next, but the healer spoke for her. "Well, I'm afraid there's little else I can do. I could give him some of these antibiotics, clean and close the wound, but that's about it. He'll need plenty of rest, naturally. If I close the wound, you've got to make sure he doesn't move for at least a week." The man paced back and forth, in his own world. It was hard for Nita not to laugh at him. He was funny.
The healer finally stopped moving, standing directly in front of Keto, a serious expression on his face. "Well, young man, I can do two things for you. Either, you allow me to give you some medication, clean and close the wound, or I can simply give you the antibiotics. However, should you choose the latter, there's a great risk of that infection spreading far beyond the wound, young ma. I'd highly advise you to have it cleaned and closed...by a professional." The woman looked even more petrified, but the healer stood his ground.
Nita decided not to speak for Keto, but give her opinion. "I think you should let him clean and close it for you before it gets worse..." Yes, Keto was going to probably try and kill her for this, but she strongly believed it was worth dying for. The only thing that concerned her was the healer possibly finding out that Keto wasn't human. She wasn't sure if that would matter at all. She just hoped not.

SOMEHOW I FOUND a way to get lost in you!
let me inside LET ME GET CLOSE TO YOU. CHANGE YOUR MIND
----------------------------------------------------------- Irritable? His wound wasn’t anywhere near making him as irritable and uncomfortable as Nita and these humans were doing. He had said what he meant and if they hadn’t gotten that clear enough then he would have no problems in repeating himself to either of them. He wanted the fat man with the mustache to leave the room immediately without giving Keto any kind of diagnosis on the gash that his side bore. Then he wanted Nita to follow him out and leave him be until Keto wanted to see her. Now that time would probably be never because of how absolutely agitated he felt with what she was doing to him but he wasn’t going to settle on that since he knew he was bound to either run into her or check on her again simply because things like that always seemed to happen to the two of them. It was like some great force was constantly throwing the two together at random times just because. Then there was that girl in all the white. Hmm, maybe she could stay and he could have her for dinner just to spite Nita. Unfortunately that would probably ruin his plan of staying here to heal and these humans would probably kill him. They were great in number and in strength considering his current condition. So really all Keto wanted any of these people to do was leave him and his sore wound alone. God, he felt all exposed and bothered with them staring at him like it was nothing. They wouldn’t dare touch him at least.
The fat one was really asking for it. He seemed to have no fear of Keto and that was beginning to make Keto feel like he needed to rip his head off to make a point. All that the human did was state the obvious. Keto already knew that the cut was infected and that was why he had come up to the land for it to heal. He wasn’t stupid. Sure he was no healer but he could take care of himself pretty well. He had been taking care of himself for just over three hundred years now and still Nita insisted on bringing these people in here. It was like she wanted to upset him or something. Stupid mermaid and her upper hand in this situation. Why did she have to do this to him? What was her problem?
She almost seemed genuinely concerned with his well being when she asked if he would be alright. But the keyword was almost. Nita probably only wanted to pretend like she was somewhat concerned with Keto’s wound simply because she was with him and didn’t want to give away what she and Keto were in front of these two humans. So it was easy for Keto to push away her question and only concern himself with it. In reality, he wasn’t all the interested in a human’s opinion on his injury. He didn’t feel like a human would really understand him as well and he also just generally didn’t expect people to know what was best for him when he knew what was best for him. Or so he thought.
Not move for a week? Hah- Keto was not going to follow some stupid human’s commands and wishes. He wasn’t going to be able to sit still on land anyways! It was where he felt least comfortable so what this man was asking of him was completely not doable to begin with. There was no use in him being here! There was no use in his opinion! He was a complete waste of Keto’s time and Keto was not going to let him fix him up anyways. His side was his own concern and he didn’t need some doctor to come and patch him up. That was obviously the last thing that he wanted to happen today as he was looking very unhappy just at the presence of the three others in the room with him. Like hell they were going to get their grubby hands on him. For all he knew Nita could slip some poison into him anyways. That was a good enough reason to stay away from the fat man and his medicines. Keto didn’t feel like dying at their hands. He’d rather die of the cut in his side than them.
He watched him pace… his agitation grew with the excessive movement. Finally he stopped to give Keto some kind of verdict. Keto was unimpressed by his choices though and only continued to glare up at the man. He didn’t even bother looking at Nita anymore. For all he cared she could leave or stand their complaining and he wouldn’t bother looking. He was done with her.
“I don’t need anyone to clean or close anything on me,” he snapped, feeling his anger rise. He pushed himself up out of the chair, ignoring the stinging in his side to push himself at his full height to stare down at the doctor. “Nor do I need your medicines. Now get out before I show you out.”
Keto turned sharp on his heel and walked carefully passed the woman in white back over toward the window. He rested his elbow on the windowsill and cupped his forehead in his hand, pushing away the headache that he had started to develop because of all of this… un-comfort. It was bad enough that he was feeling ill and so… well, he didn’t have words for his other feelings. He just wanted these people to leave. He could care less if he dropped dead now as long as it got him out of this ordeal. He did not like other people touching him or telling him what to do.
Standing was making him feel rather ill and his legs were beginning to wear out quickly beneath him. Whether that was because he was tired or because of the sickness he didn’t know. He didn’t move from his spot though. He knew his posture wasn’t exactly a convincing or strong one but he thought that moving away from them would give them the hint and have them out of his hair sooner than later. Stupid humans… stupid Nita.

This was surely going to be an adventure, of that she was sure. She knew Keto wasn't going to play nicely and the healer and other woman were definitely in for some sort of treat. Nita just stood there, looking up at the ceiling, trying to avoid the mess she had caused. Why did he have to be so difficult? What was it with mermen and their stubbornness? It was about to drive her insane. She wanted to yell at him and tie him down, but that would probably only make matters worse. She wasn't interested in being berated right now.
Finally, she was able to return her gaze back at the scene forming before her. She frowned and rolled her eyes. Keto had spoken, but he had also stood up. He was towering over the healer and the other woman looked even more nervous than she had before. Nita stepped in front of the woman as a precaution. The healer, however, didn't seem too fazed by this. She figured in his profession, he had to deal with a lot of jackasses like Keto. Though she admired his boldness, she couldn't help but feel a little concerned for him. After all, Keto was no ordinary man, if you wanted to call him a man at all.
The healer shook his head, looking back at Nita and shrugging. "Well, there goes it then. I'm a busy man. If he doesn't want my help, I don't think I'm in much of a position to force anything upon the young man quite frankly. Not to mention, he seems a little more than...irritated." He finished, clearly annoyed at this whole fiasco. Now it was Nita's turn to grow irritated. All she wanted to do was help him. Couldn't he see that?
She watched as Keto moved over to the window. The other woman took that as her sign to head towards the door. Nita watched her quickly before returning her attention back at Keto. The healer didn't move or say anything else, but he was watching the man as well. Nita and he exchanged "we should probably hold him against his will, knock him unconscious and take care of the wound anyways" looks. At least Nita didn't have to say it out loud. She returned her gaze towards Keto and sighed. He wasn't going to make this easy.
Nita moved first and the healer followed her lead. The other woman could no longer hide her fear and screamed, "Are you mad?!" Nita turned around and gave her a deadly look but just as quickly walked fastly towards Keto. She had only one chance to get him. Everyone in the room knew he was weak and regardless, had to be dealt with some caution. Only Nita knew how deadly he could be, even in his weakened state. She wasn't going to take any chances if she didn't have to.
She took off one of her shoes and threw it forcibly at his head. Then, she and the doctored raced to get his limp body on the bed. Whether he was still conscious or not, she couldn't tell. The healer was wasting no time, however. "Elaine, get me my bag! Hurry." The woman, named Elaine reluctantly did as she was told and before long, the doctor was proceeding with cleaning and closing the unsightly and smelly wound. Nita gently held Keto down, in case he tried to get up. She just hoped he'd allow this man to do his job.
The healer only took a total of ten minutes, but it was the longest ten minutes of her life. She kept looking down at Keto, feeling guilty for what she was putting him through, but knowing that in the long run, it would be for the best. Maybe if he didn't get into so many unnecessary fights with various creatures, he wouldn't have so many bruises. Either way, she did care about him enough to want to see to it that he got the proper care. How she'd pay this man for his work was another problem altogether.
She had spent most of the time thinking about various forms of payment. If she had to sleep with him, so be it. Finally, the healer was finished. "That should about do it!" He beamed in pleasure of what he had done. Nita looked down to see his work and was astonished. She hadn't really been paying attention to what he was doing, regrettably. She was mostly focused on Keto, oddly and making sure he didn't get up. If he had been awake, he had did a good job of hiding it. She hoped he wasn't. For her sake and the other two.
The healer and Elaine were cleaning up when Nita removed herself from the bed and said, "Thank you sir." She was about to finish before he stopped her. "No, need, no need. Consider this one on the house. I figure, that young man's been through enough. The last thing he needs to worry about is paying me. Please make sure he gets proper rest, otherwise, the wound will tear and all this work will be for naught! Elaine and I must get going. He might not be too happy to see us when he wakes." Nita nodded her head in understanding.
The healer was smarter than she had given him credit for. After they had left, Nita also had the opportunity to follow them, but she decided, against her better judgment, to stay with Keto. He was going to kill her, or at least make her life a living hell, but she was ready to take it. She closed and locked the door behind them and bit her lip in anxiety. For the first time in a long time, she was afraid of Keto, truly and utterly afraid of him.
Hesitantly, she walked back over to where he was laying and peered down over him. Her eyes scanned over his body and she looked at the stitched up wound once again. "Keto...?" She whispered nervously. "If you can hear me...they're gone. You're all better now, but you've got to rest for awhile." She sat on the edge of the bed, wiping sweat from her forehead. This had been a very stressing day. She only hoped she lived to see the night. (sorry again for the massive g-modding. I tried to make it so that he maybe was awake )

SOMEHOW I FOUND a way to get lost in you!
let me inside LET ME GET CLOSE TO YOU. CHANGE YOUR MIND
----------------------------------------------------------- Fucking humans, why weren’t the leaving him! He could still feel their presence lingering heavily behind him and this included Nita’s. He stayed at the window though, hoping that they would turn around and head out the door that they had all come through rather than stare at him for another God awful minute. They weren’t leaving though. If anything, Keto could feel them either staring him down like mad or approaching him. In any case, Keto didn’t like it and squinted at the glass in the window to try and get a better look at them without having to turn himself completely around. His blue eyes first narrowed at the reflection of the extra woman who had tagged along with the doctor that Nita had brought here. She seemed to be gathering all of the medical equipment in preparation to leave. However, the healer and Nita were still watching Keto and he didn’t like it. He could see even in the blur of their reflections that they were up to something; he just could not fathom what. Surely they wouldn’t dare make a move on him. He was taller, stronger, and… not in the best of condition but now he was also aware of them being closer possibly without either of them even noticing him noticing. Attacking him would be a stupid idea. He had nothing and would not have either of them touching them. If they even dared to lay a finger on him he would be sure to-
The girl’s shout had startled him. His eyes widened a bit and he quickly turned around to find out what she was yelling about. He had assumed it was a shout directed at Nita and the doctor approaching him but had not imagined that some foreign object was going to be lobbed at his face as soon as he looked back. He had obviously tried to avoid it but the wall behind him had kept him from doing so since he hadn’t thought to try and grab it. Ugh, this ill feeling was really beginning to get to him and make him feel uneasy and not himself. Oh and then there was the fact that something of Nita’s had just him right under the eye. Obviously she was only trying to make things worse on him because anyone in their right mind wouldn’t go lobbing things at people’s heads or faces for the sake of anything! She was so very infuriating!
But, of course, Keto had no time to even think about how horribly awful that wretched wench was. Instead he was stuck trying to catch himself from falling back into the wall. One hand waved out behind him while the other tried to make it up high enough to clutch his head. His brain felt terribly rattled and he could hardly think of anything. Everything sort of looked spotted out in blacks and purples. Not to mention the dizzy sensation that came over him. Having already had a headache and feeling sick as it was, getting something slammed into your face really did not make anything feel steadier or make him feel any better. He almost felt the urge to throw up. Good Reena, he’d just started getting used to land and now everything was going all wobbly again and he knew in the back of his mind he only had one person to blame for all this sudden misfortune. If it hadn’t been for his bad footing and sudden lack of knowing where he was and what was going on Keto would have made sure to give her a piece of his mind as soon as possible. But that as soon as possible would have to wait.
He felt his stomach somersault as his weight was pulled up onto a surface. His teeth ground together lightly as his heart began to pick up its pace from the sudden stinging in his side and simply being completely unaware of what was happening around him. He felt like some kind of trapped animal. A light sweat had draped his body and his fingers clenched into fists whenever he tried to raise his chest or hips in attempt to somehow roll away from them. His efforts were futile and probably went mostly unnoticed since they were more than likely only concentrating on the speed of which they could get the job done. Keto tilted his head to the side and forced his eyes opened as far as they could. For the moment that was only halfway and the whole world looked like a dizzy blur. His brain had almost gotten over being tossed around but the pressure in his stomach and the sting on his skin was sickening and almost forced a moan to come from his throat. He held it through gridded teeth almost thinking that he wouldn’t want to give them that kind of satisfaction. Then he remembered that the human probably wouldn’t be satisfied by hearing any signs of pain. Nita on the other hand… he was too dizzy to assume.
The weight on him was relieved and he could hear muffled sounds. Muffled to his ears at least, no matter how much he strained to hear. Heck, who was he kidding? He wasn’t really trying to hear anyone or anything. He was trying to recollect himself. Everything seemed to fly by him in an instant. Except for the pain. It still lingered and the newly punctured points where the stitching had gone through was beginning to drive him insane with agony. It wasn’t the worst pain he had ever felt inflicted upon him but he usually had adrenaline to help keep him from feeling it. Or a full grasp on his conscious so that he could bite his tongue and ignore it. Right now his brain was begging for him to stay still and just breathe in and out; slow, relaxing breaths. For a moment he couldn’t even do that. He could still feel his chest falling and rising rather quickly and felt unable to shake the feeling that something else was going to leap on him in his pain drunken state. All of the veins in his body were pounding so hard that he could feel every single one it seemed. He felt a mess.
He was having some difficulty recomposing himself. Even when he heard Nita speaking to him and felt his throat tighten up stubbornly, Keto couldn’t quite pull everything together. Everything still hurt and if it hadn’t been hurting a moment ago it was reminding him that it had been injured when he had gotten that flying object to the face. He thought that he couldn’t speak because of how tightly his throat had seemed to shrink itself shut. But Keto managed to pull some strength from within him to throw out at her.
“You stupid, fucking bitch,” he murmured at first while trying to move. Then as he finally managed to push onto his side he also managed to find in him the strength to shout. “Get out!”

So he had been awake the entire time. Yikes. She was really in for it now, but again, she had been willing to do what she felt was necessary. He might not thank her now, but she was confident that in a few years, he'd see what she was trying to do. And if he didn't, so be it. At least he'd still be alive, unless he let another creature tear him to pieces. If that be the case, then it wouldn't have anything to do with her. He was going to live longer because she interfered.
She could sense how furious he was with her and all she could do was sigh. She supposed she had some of it coming, but couldn't he at least see that she was trying to help him? Well, maybe tossing a shoe at him in the hopes of knocking him out wasn't the greatest way to show her concern, but it sort of did the trick. She scratched her chin and tried to look at everything from his point of view. Well, maybe she couldn't really expect him to be appreciative of allowing some human to take care of something without his consent.
It was then that she realized she was without a shoe. Did she really want to get up to pick up the very item that had lodged itself in his face? Yes. She wasn't about to go around walking without footwear. She could, but she had learned the hard way how that felt like after. It wasn't worth the unnecessary pain. Nita walked over to the location in which she had thrown the shoe and began looking for it. She hadn't really paid much attention to where it landed, her main concern being Keto at that moment.
After a few quiet minutes, she found it and placed it back where it belonged. She was more stressed out over his reaction once he got better, or even before that, than anything else. He had never made his disdain for her quiet and she was certain that this act would only solidify what was already a contentious relationship between the two. Nita didn't dare sit back on the bed once he had made his awareness of everything known. She wasn't going to allow him to physically lash out at her that easily.
But before she could gather herself, he had mumbled something she heard. She had been called worse, by him and others, but it was still hurtful to hear. Nita just sighed defeated, turning her back to him. She was starting to tense up just a little, the anger that she was trying hard to keep in control was slowly starting to boil. Eventually, she was going to reach her breaking point and say or do something to really make him hate her, as if he needed another reason. She didn't care anymore. She really didn't.
Finally, Nita turned around, having let her anger get the better of her. "Fuck you Keto. Seriously. All I tried to do was fucking save your ass because you were doing such a nice job of it on your own. You think you're the only one with a "secret"? Bullshit. You think I don't know why you're constantly following me? I lived with my father for several decades. What did he promise you? I'm not as ignorant as you think. He's making you watch out for me? Take that shit and stick it somewhere. I don't need you watching me, I don't want you watching me. You can kiss my ass you piece of shit!"
Most of those words, she had learned from humans long ago. She felt much better now that she said that. She headed towards the door, but heard voices coming from the other end. He had shouted and she shouted back. It was only inevitable that everyone would assume something else. "I hope they come for you and skin your ass alive..." She muttered under her breath. Someone knocked on the door but Nita didn't want to answer back. "Go away." She finally said, though the tone of her voice let everyone know she was still seething. "I hate you Keto. I seriously...hate you."

SOMEHOW I FOUND a way to get lost in you!
let me inside LET ME GET CLOSE TO YOU. CHANGE YOUR MIND
----------------------------------------------------------- Slowly he managed to push himself all the way over onto his stomach. From there he used his arms to push up his body up and back so that he could sit on his heels. The world again decided to go dizzy and hazy but Keto managed to keep himself up this time. Both of his hands shot up and clutched his face in a small attempt to steady himself and stop his shoulders from wanting to sway back and forth riskily. He also made sure to keep his feet relaxed so that he wouldn’t have to concern himself with settling on the balls of his toes just yet. After this horrid sensation of walking on loose stones went away he would force himself up all of the way. Then he would- well, he really hadn’t the slightest idea of what he would do from there. He had told Nita to get out but he could tell that she was doing no such thing. Still she stayed and was most likely fuming mad just as he was. Or pleased that he was feeling so awfully sick and tired and sore. She probably liked watching him sit there in pain. She probably liked thinking that he couldn’t defend himself and knock her down if she tried to attack him. She probably liked every minute of this and that was making his blood boil up even more so than it had been earlier. Just the simple thought of Nita sitting there watching him was coaxing him to go over the edge and give her more than what she would ever bargain for. She was treading very thin ice right now and he wasn’t sure if she was understanding just how breakable this sheet beneath her feet was. It was starting to break much quicker than he thought, too.
“Then why didn’t you just leave me be!” he shouted back at her. He dropped his hands from his face and allowed them to land at his sides so that he could steadily push himself over to the side of the bed. As soon as he had turned around and got his feet back on the solid wood floor he had to again drop his head in his hand. This time his palm rested against his face and he had to pull it back because of a tender spot that happened to be under his eye. He growled lightly. “Why couldn’t you just let me die if you hate me so much?”
It really was quite agitating. Here she was going on about how much she loathed him and didn’t care about him yet she had gone out of her way to help him get a room and made sure that he had gotten his wound stitched up before she left. But even after all of that she was still in here going on about how she really did hate him and that he was just a piece of shit to her. If she thought so badly of him why couldn’t she just leave him? Keto was not an idiot. He was not blind even by rage and pain. He could almost as clearly as he could if he was in a regular sort of mood. She didn’t hate him, he knew that. She cared that he was here. Sure he continued to think that she liked seeing him in pain (and he was sure he was right still) but that didn’t mean she wanted him dead. Nor did it mean she really hated him as much as she said. She was mixed up and angry. He couldn’t see why since she hadn’t been the one thrown at a bed and touched against her will.
His heart was still pounding hard and rugged in union with his breaths. His free hand dared to venture down toward the stitching in his side. He sucked in his stomach lightly at first when his fingers grazed the bruised spot filled with stitching material. He furrowed his brow, allowing his fingers to continue to go up and down the doctor’s work. Every time his fingers ventured over a little bump he was reminded of how badly he hadn’t wanted it there and reminded at the words that were coming out of Nita’s rather filthy mouth. “Fine… if you hate me so much than you won’t mind what happens to me,” he mostly murmured to himself. Then, with those words spoken, he gently curled his thumb and index finger around the first little lump that he could find.
Keto winced slightly at first from the sting but simply ground his teeth together as his nails buried themselves around the stitch work. Crazy? Yeah, Keto had been called that and worse in his long lifetime. But he really had nothing to loose. This would piss her off surely as well so why not? Not to mention he didn’t want this human work done on him. He was supposed to come up here and take care of himself. He didn’t need some wretched humans doing the job for him. Especially if it would be forced on him. So Keto really held no remorse in picking away at the stitching that had been preformed on him. Now a few spots were forming beneath his fingertips. He could smell it, he could feel it, and if he glanced down through the fingers that had rested against his face he could clearly see brighter red forming along with the purple and green bruising.
